December 2017 Adult Church School Options

Adult Education December 2017

Sunday Morning Education Hour has some great offerings for adults to grow, stretch, deepen and ground their faith and practice. Adults of every age and stage are welcome – young adults to senior citizens. Some courses are three or four weeks and some last for several months. We try to address these broad themes:  Bible Study, Big Questions, Equipping the Saints, Life and Nurture, Mission, Spirituality, and The Twenty-First Century.

Classes begin promptly at 9:30 a.m., so come and grab your coffee or tea at the Wake-Up Station, and join a conversation! Classes conclude by 10:25 a.m., so that if you are a person who attends the 10:30 a.m. service, you have enough time to gather for worship.

Advent Art and Inspiration

December 3 through December 17 – Room 252

Have no time to commit to a month-long class? Need some calm and creativity during the Christmas
season? This may be the class for you. Each Sunday will focus on a way to slow down and breathe by
sharing in a simple artistic activity with others who want to savor the season:

December 3—Praying in Color with Angela Nichols models an active, meditative,
playful prayer practice that requires no artistic skill.

December 10—Patterns and Perspectives with Clarence Baney and Ben Riniker
explores patterns in Islamic art and Christian architectural design that are used as a
means of guided meditation.

December 17—Stars and Songs with Elaine Cook, Clarence Baney, and Ben Riniker
offers an opportunity to make origami stars and share in singing together.

Join us for all three classes, or drop in for one or two. We hope you’ll find each class peaceful and
inspiring.

Conversations on Race: Facing Racism—led by Paula Seabright and Erin Reid

December 3 through December 17 – Room 258

Please join us in December as we have a guided discussion of racism using the Presbyterian Mission’s
Facing Racism study guide. We will have more casual drop-in classes that will allow anyone who wishes
to join us to come to join us for just one, or perhaps all three classes, as the busy holiday season allows.

Here is a link to the material: https://www.presbyterianmission.org/resource/facing-racism-visionintercultural-community-antiracism-study-guides/

Please save the PDF to you favorite mobile device to aid in your participation in the discussion. We will have a few copies available in class but we will need them returned at the end of each session.

Our schedule is:
December 3—Week 1. Biblical Imperative to Antiracism
December 10—Week 3. PC(USA) and Racial Reconciliation
December 17—Week 6. Responding as a Community of Faith
