MARCH FOOD DRIVE FOR HOWARD COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS
Through the Howard Community College campus food pantry, named for Vivian C. “Millie” Bailey and William Harrison Bailey, the Fueling Dragons program is helping students who are experiencing food insecurity. Fueling Dragons is a series of programs designed to increase students’ knowledge about nutrition, support students in making healthy choices, and baking and pancake mixes provide access to healthier food options through meal kits, recipes, education, and workshops.
Before the pandemic hit in 2020, the pantry gave away over 2,300 pounds of food and self-care items to students each month. With the pandemic still affecting many of our students, we anticipate students will continue to utilize the program throughout this year.
First Presbyterian has a long-standing history of helping with food insufficiency locally and beyond. This year we are doing a targeted food drive in the month of March to help them keep their pantry stocked. There will be labeled bins in the Upper Commons and outside the kitchen door clearly labeled for March HCC Food Drive.
The last date to bring food to the church is Sunday March 27, 2022.

You can help by donating the most needed non-perishable items:
- First ingredient whole grain cereals (prefer less than 6g sugar)
- Shelf-stable low-fat dairy and non-dairy milk
- 100% whole wheat pastas
- Brown or wild rice
- Dried lentils and beans
- Low- or no salt canned vegetables (under 140g sodium, under 4g sugar)
- Low- or no slat broths and soups (under 480g sodium, under 3g fat)
- Canned tuna in water
- Olive and vegetable oils
- Canned fruit (low sugar less than 12g)
- 100% fruit juices, Vegetable juices
- Seasonings/Spices
- Soap
- Shampoo/Conditioner
- Toothpaste/Toothbrushes
- Feminine hygiene products
