Summer Big Read 2021

Here For It, or How to Save your Soul in America, by R. Eric Thomas

Pastor Sue invites you to read along with her this summer. This book was recommended to her by a church member – and she can’t put it down. It really is laugh-out-loud funny (that’s what Lin-Manuel Miranda said about it.)

Here for It is Eric Thomas’ story of growing up black, Baptist and gay in West Baltimore – and then marrying a Presbyterian minister. (Spoiler alert – Eric’s husband is David Norse-Thomas, the pastor of Maryland Church in Towson!) He writes about growing up seeing the world differently, finding unexpected hope, and experiencing every awkward, extraordinary stumble along the way.

R. Eric Thomas was a senior staff writer at Elle.com where beginning in 2016 he wrote the daily pop culture and politics humor column Eric Reads the News. He’s an award winning television writer (Dickinson) and playwright, and host of The Moth in Philadelphia and DC.

Let me know you are reading! We’ll schedule a get-together and laugh-out-loud meet up in August.
